Materials

Here is what you will need:

  • any yarn weight you choose and a matching hook

  • tapestry needle, scissors.

For my yellow flower I used yarn recommended for 1-3 mm hook and a hook no. 2 mm. The flower dimension is about 3-4 cm.

Basic Stitches Of This Simple Crochet Flower

Terms used: mr= magic ring, ch= chain, sc= single crochet, dc= double crochet, sl st= slip stitch.

Magic Ring (mr) or mc for magic circle:

  1. Make a loop in your yarn, at least 10cm from the tail end. Insert hook through the loop from front to back.

  2. Pull yarn though to front of loop and complete the stitch around the loop and the tail end of yarn held double.

  3. Work all the following stitches into the ring in the same way, over the two strands of yarn in the loop. Once all stitches have been worked, pull the loose tail end of the yarn to close the ring and join the round with a slip stitch.

The alternative method, when crocheting in the round, is to make a small foundation chain; close this chain into a ring with a slip stitch; and work your first round into that ring.

Chain Stitch (ch):

A simple crochet stitch that often forms the foundation of what crochet stitches are worked into during projects.

  1. Make a slip knot.

  2. Insert hook into slip knot point first, bring yarn over the shaft of the hook from back to front and grab it with the throat of the hook.

  3. Draw hooked yarn through slip knot and onto the hook. This movement will make one chain stitch

  4. Repeat steps two and three until you have the desired number of stitches or a pattern. One loop will remain on hook.

Single Crochet (sc): / In UK terms – Double Crochet (dc)

  1. Wrap the yarn over (YO) the hook, insert the hook into the specified stitch.

  2. YO the hook again, draw the yarn through the stitch, so there are 2 loops on the hook.

  3. YO the hook again, draw it through 2 loops, so there are 1 loops on the hook.

Double Crochet (dc): / In UK terms – Treble Crochet (tr)

  1. Wrap the yarn over (YO) the hook, insert the hook into the specified stitch.

  2. YO the hook again, draw the yarn through the stitch, so there are 3 loops on the hook.

  3. YO the hook again, draw it through 2 loops, so there are 2 loops on the hook.

  4. YO the hook, draw it through the final 2 loops.

Slip Stitch (Sl St):

  1. Insert hook into designated stitch

  2. YO (yarn over) and pull back through the st and through the loop on the hook.

Now that you know all the stitches required for this small crochet flower, it’s time to start!
