Materials

Here is what you will need:

  • any yarn weight you choose and a matching hook

  • scissors.

For my red cross I used yarn recommended for 2-3 mm hook and a hook no. 2 mm. The cross dimension is about 4 x 6 cm.

For blue cross I used yarn recommended for 2-3 mm hook and a hook no. 3 mm. The cross dimension is about 5 x 7 cm.

Basic Stitches Of This Simple Crochet Flower

Terms used: ch= chain, dc= double crochet, sl st= slip stitch.

Chain Stitch (ch):

A simple crochet stitch that often forms the foundation of what crochet stitches are worked into during projects.

  1. Make a slip knot.

  2. Insert hook into slip knot point first, bring yarn over the shaft of the hook from back to front and grab it with the throat of the hook.

  3. Draw hooked yarn through slip knot and onto the hook. This movement will make one chain stitch

  4. Repeat steps two and three until you have the desired number of stitches or a pattern. One loop will remain on hook.

Double Crochet (dc): / In UK terms – Treble Crochet (tr)

  1. Wrap the yarn over (YO) the hook, insert the hook into the specified stitch.

  2. YO the hook again, draw the yarn through the stitch, so there are 3 loops on the hook.

  3. YO the hook again, draw it through 2 loops, so there are 2 loops on the hook.

  4. YO the hook, draw it through the final 2 loops.

Slip Stitch (Sl St):

  1. Insert hook into designated stitch

  2. YO (yarn over) and pull back through the st and through the loop on the hook.

Now that you know all the stitches required for this small crochet flower, it’s time to start!
